In the place where the church is located nowadays, there was an oratory entitled to Saint Michael Archangel. Close to itthe remains of the supposed original parochial building have been unearthed; according to the tradition,it was dedicated to Saint Biagio; it is attestedby the Pope Decima where this place is mentioned. By the year one thousand the church already belonged to the Bishop of Florence.
Subsequently the patronage moved from the Pulci family to the Soldi family, to the florentine sisters of Sant' Orsola and to the Carnesecchi; finally, in 1693, it became the property of the Bardi family from Vernio.

The painting is by Bernardino Monaldi, who signed and dated it (1589) on the fragment of Wheel of Saint Caterina of Alexandria.
